About 1 year ago, my husband and I decided to take the plunge into clean eating and get our health back on track. We aren’t perfect and fall off the bandwagon often, but we get back up and keep on going where we left off. My story is probably different then yours. I love to cook and as you can see from my website, not all recipes are clean, but its all about balance, not only balance but being able to be happy and healthy at the same time. My happiness won’t be the same as the next persons, but I will share with you how I got started and what keeps me in line.
Top 3 Tips To Changing Your Lifestyle
1. Change Your Mindset
You are your own worst critic. Instead of thinking of what you aren’t, think about what you are. Personal development can have a huge impact on your life. Start off by writing down 5 positive things about yourself. Celebrate your accomplishments. Don’t buy into the negative stories your mind wants to tell you, instead, replace those negative thoughts with positive ones. Try changing your attention to something else, maybe that’s a book, a motivational video, a bible verse, etc. Something to revert those negative thoughts. And stop comparing yourself with others! You are you! You are not X, Y or Z!
Exercise will improve your mood and also give you natural energy. It can also help you sleep better. Find a gym or home program thats right for you. Not everyone likes to go to the gym, go on a jog, or workout from home. Figure out what it is you actually like to do for exercise or don’t mind doing, and do it well. For me, I like to workout from home, so I found a way to do that. There are plenty of programs out there that are very affordable, sometimes it requires us to take a leap of faith or to stop buying our morning Starbucks. Like Nike says, “Just Do It!”
3. Clean Eating
Ok, finally, I’ve gotten to the good part. Abs are truly made in the kitchen”, “you are what you eat”, “weight loss is 80% diet” all of these phrases are so true. I couldn’t believe how my body changed when I started eating clean! Clean meaning:
- Lean Proteins – chicken, turkey, salmon, eggs, greek yogurt, etc.
- Vegetables – kale, spinach, broccoli, asparagus, tomatos, carrots, etc.
- Fruits – berries, apples, watermelon, grapes, pineapple, banana, etc.
- Carbs – sweet potato, quinoa, brown rice, oatmeal, whole grain, etc.
- Healthy Fats – avocado, nuts, hummus, feta, coconut milk, etc.
This is just a small example of things you can have while eating clean. Planning your meals is key, there are plenty of websites out there but here is an example of meal prep for the week.
All you need to do is start, even if your first hour, day, or week isn’t perfect, try again! You will feel so much better, you’ll learn how to have fun with your meals while eating clean and you can even have treats that go along with your new lifestyle. Heck have a cheat day! Just make sure you are eating clean as close to 80% of the time as you can.
